JEAN'S ANATOMY BACKGROUND
"My initial interest in anatomy arose due to injuries I had, despite being a dedicated practitioner of yoga. I couldn’t understand why so many people (including myself) who practiced so frequently and with such dedication seemed to get hurt on the mat. This led me to research into the fundamentals of anatomy, movement and traditional approaches to yoga practice - then many years of self-practice to test and implement these principles. Now I specialise in the principles of anatomy and yoga therapy to help bring balance and health."

HER APPROACH TO TEACHING
"I believe that anatomy does not have to be boring! All the information we learn can only be useful if we are able to apply it in our practice or our lives. This is the basis for my teaching. Practical useful information that can be directly applied to your yoga practice to create a stronger, healthier, more mobile body as well as creating calmer states of mind to help us live a full and meaningful life."

WHAT SHE ENJOYS ABOUT TRAINING TEACHERS AND FUTURE TEACHERS
"People who decide to do a workshop, course or teacher training obviously have a great interest in yoga. I love to share my passion for yoga with others and explore all the possibilities that yoga offers. Seeing the dedication and enthusiasm of students is inspiring. These times give us the opportunity to be in a “yoga bubble”, allowing time and space for introspection, learning and change that we rarely experience in our day to day lives. To be a part of this process is a joy and a privilege."

Melia Wong

Melia started practising yoga in 2006, after noticing that classes at the local gym relieved the tension in her neck and shoulders from office work. She enjoys the balance of strength and flexibility that comes with daily yoga asana practice. Through her own experience in dealing with stresses from a career in finance, she has found that yoga is a great way of stilling the mind and promoting mental clarity.

Melia specialises in yoga anatomy and in injury prevention, management and recovery.

TRAINING
She has completed a Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training (350 hours), a Level 2 Yoga Teacher Training (300 hours) and an apprenticeship with Jean Campbell and continues to be mentored by Jean. In 2019 Melia became the head teacher and owner of the Melbourne Yoga Shala - taking over from Jean Campbell.

MELIA'S ANATOMY BACKGROUND
”I studied anatomy as part of my Level 1 Teacher Training and realised that I have a passion for anatomy and its relevance to yoga practice. Subsequently, I studied yoga anatomy in-depth in my further training and apprenticeship. I find it rewarding to help students who come to me with injuries to recover as well as learn how to move in a way that is safe but also allows for progression into more challenging postures.”

HER APPROACH TO TEACHING
”I believe that the benefits of yoga should be accessible to everyone, and that practice can be tailored to suit all levels of skill and body condition. I teach with the intention of providing practical tools that can be integrated into the demands of daily life to improve physical and mental well-being.”

Beishen Khor

Beishen has been practising yoga for 19 years.

In 2013 she took up a 200 hours Yoga teacher training in Singapore. As she commenced teaching yoga, she realised the need to learn more about how to accommodate people with injuries or special circumstances and decided to undertake further training in Yoga Anatomy.

Subsequently she has done 3 years of intensive training, advanced studies in yoga anatomy (Level 1 and 2) and apprenticeship with Jean Campbell. Since 2016 Beishen has been teaching general classes and private classes focusing on therapy and helping people get better through yoga in Melbourne.

BEISHEN'S ANATOMY BACKGROUND
“After becoming a yoga teacher, I realised the need to deepen my yoga anatomy knowledge to cater for students with different conditions and capabilities. I became hooked on learning yoga anatomy ever since my Level 1 Training and went on to study a Level 2 Training and an apprenticeship. The understanding of the human body allows me to appreciate yoga asanas – why we do them, how to determine safe ways to challenge ourselves, as well as providing adaptations when teaching and practising.”

HER APPROACH TO TEACHING
“Everyone learns at a different pace and starting point. I find it useful to give variety of instructions or ways of describing things and breaking things down, gradually adding layers to the understanding of a movement or posture.”

Anita Nicholls

Anita began practising Yoga in 2012 at the age of 17. At 19, she completed her first Yoga Teacher Training (200 hrs) in Melbourne alongside studies in Architecture. In 2017, she began studying with Jean Campbell with whom she has completed three consecutive years of intensive training in advanced anatomy and Yoga. She has completed an apprenticeship and an additional Level 1 (350 hrs) and Level 2 (300 hrs) Yoga Teacher Training with Jean involving an in-depth study of anatomy and Yogic philosophy. Currently, Anita teaches yoga classes in Melbourne from beginner level to advanced as well as Teen Yoga for high-school students in years 9-12.

ANITA’S ANATOMY BACKGROUND
“I started to learn more about anatomy during my second teacher training which was around the time I began a daily self-practice. Being able to apply this knowledge in my practice and teaching provided immediate and on-going benefits. I continued to study anatomy in depth so that I could better help my students and increase my independence as a practitioner. As a teacher, learning about anatomy has helped me to specifically address my student’s individual needs."

HER APPROACH TO TEACHING
“I see each student as having a set of unique personal circumstances influencing what is appropriate for them in a yoga practice and learning context. As much as possible, I tailor a student’s practice to counteract any physical or mental tendencies that may be present for them. I aim to be approachable and sincere as I encourage my students to ask questions and to feel and understand what is happening in their own body. My goal is for my students to develop self-awareness, confidence and a clear understanding of alignment principles so that they develop healthy habits as ongoing, independent and knowledgeable practitioners."
